The following variety of Roses have been found to do well in the Tulsa area.  The condition of the individual gardens is the most important factor to the success of any rose bed but some varieties have shown themselves to survive our hot summers and unpredictable winters better than others.  They are divided into the different classifications of roses.  Always feel free to consult with your local garden center also.

Hybrid Teas—Most frequently grown, produces large single blooms on long graceful stems.

Dublin  (medium red, 35-40 petals)
First Prize  (pink blend, 25-30 petals)
Double Delight (white/scarlet –spicy fragrance)

Peace  (yellow to flush pink)
Rina Hugo  (magenta-slight fragrance)
Moonstone  (white with pink-mild Tea fragrance)
Veteran’s Honor  (dark red)
Lovers Lane  (bright red)
Gemini  (coral pink/white-light papaya fragrance)
Brides Dream  (light pink – med. fragrance)
Brigadoon  (coral pink – slight fragrance)
Folklore  (warm salmon –strong fragrance)
Ingrid Bergman  (deep red – med. fragrance)
Just Joey  (buff apricot –strong fragrance)
Secret  (creamy white with med. Pink tinge – strong fragrance)
Rio Samba  (yellow/scarlet – slight fragrance)
Touch of Class  (coral – slight fragrance)
St. Patrick  (yellow with green tinge)
Garden Party  (white/pale pink – slight fragrance)
Oklahoma  (deep red – very fragrant)

Beloved "aka" Cesar Chavez  dark red
Black Magic--dark red

Floribundas—Blossoms are produced in clusters which provide spectacular color.  They bloom in a cycle every six to seven weeks.

Grandifloras—A cross between Hybrid Tea and Floribunda: flowers are formed in both clusters and singly on long stems.

Climbers & Ramblers—Characterized by long, vigorous basal canes; can easily be trained to grow up a post or trellis.

Miniatures—Extremely small well-formed buds and closely spaced foliage on canes, very adaptable.
Miniature roses are very adaptable to the Tulsa area.  Miniature climbers, tree roses and bushes can be raised in containers or planted in a bed.  They should be cared for as most roses.  They can be trimmed back to the ground and will grow out again.

Old Garden Roses—Small, medium and large bushes. Gallicas are usually small and make good hedges if grafted. Albas, Damasks, Rugosas, Centifolias, Mosses and Eglantine are medium and large bushes.  OGR's are defined as those type of roses that existed prior to 1867.

Shrubs—Taller bushes that make good borders or specimen bushes.  Many tend to sprawl.  They can grow from 5 to 15 feet or more in every direction.

Species—Some are large and make good specimens or borders. Most American species are small to medium.  They are usually single petaled (4-11 petals), once blooming and have a bush size from 2 to 20 feet.

Polyanthas—Small, shrubby roses with blooms all summer: good for landscaping.  They are smaller than the floribunda generally having clusters of small 1 inch diameter blooms.

Earthkind Roses - This is a special designation that has been given to a number of roses that have been tested and proven to be disease and insect resistant when grown as recommended.  The list changes from time to time.  Follow this link to the official Earthkind website.  Many of these roses are being grown in the Tulsa area and are available from many retail outlets.
